Meet Joey Bosmans, New Product Development & Quality Manager

No two workdays are ever the same for Joey Bosmans, which is one of his favorite aspects of being Federal Eco Foam’s New Product Development and Quality Manager.

Joey came to Federal Eco Foam with consulting and operations experience and ready to help strengthen quality assurance and continuous improvement, making him a great fit for what the company needed. Joey focuses on overseeing rebond foam block production and making sure each product meets the specific needs of our customers.

He’s also been a key driver of continuous improvement initiatives, including setting up a quality lab to test foam blocks and creating technical data sheets to give customers more insight into the products they’re buying.

“When I joined the team over two and a half years ago, management knew there was a need for certain processes to be updated,” Joey says. “It’s been an interesting challenge to get these processes up and running.”

Even with the variety in his day-to-day actions, Joey begins his workday by inspecting the rebond foam blocks produced the day before to verify they match the client’s specifications.

From there, his day can include anything from walking the plant floor, to addressing any quality concerns and process improvements with An Ruymaekers, FEF’s Quality Control & New Product Development (NPD) Operator, or handling customer claims.

Putting the “Quality” in New Product Development & Quality Manager

One of Joey’s biggest projects has been the installation of the new sports mat line, which involves updating the current equipment in the FEF plant. Joey’s main role was working closely with external consultant, Wout Ludema, to offer technical support on the equipment upgrades to maintain Federal Eco Foam’s high-quality standards.

As the project nears implementation, Joey and the rest of the team are excited about how much progress they’ve made and look forward to utilizing the new equipment to continue delivering world-famous sports mats to customers. Benefits of this new equipment include:

• Improved workflow efficiency through reduced standstills
• Enhanced output and faster delivery times
• Greater production consistency, leading to fewer rejected mats

“I’ve been traveling a lot to the testing site and have been able to see the new upgrades in action,” Joey says. “It’s been a lot of work these last few months, but all of us here at Federal Eco Foam are really excited for the future of our sports and leisure products.”

Driving Change in the Polyurethane Foam Industry

Joey credits much of his professional development to the strong collaboration he shares with CEO Dirk Vander Mierde who has provided him with several opportunities to further improve his skills, expand his industry knowledge and grow as a leader within the company. Dirk and Joey attended the 2025 EUROPUR conference to learn the latest flexible polyurethane trends, highlighting FEF’s commitment to continuous growth and innovation within a rapidly evolving industry.

This year’s EUROPUR Conference featured presentations on two industry projects that Joey is actively involved in as FEF’s liaison. In partnership with EURO-MOULDERS, FEF provides post-consumer PU foam for their End-of-life Vehicles PU Foam Recycling project. Additionally, FEF supports the Foam Recycling Ecosystem Evolution (FREE) Project in partnership with Covestro to develop sustainable solutions for recycling PU foam. Joey represents FEF at project meetings and ensures action items such as performing quality control checks on the recycled trim bales and verifying the shredding and rebond foam production are accomplished and meet each project’s criteria.

A Personal Connection

Outside of work, Joey enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and staying active by playing soccer, and tennis.

One of Joey’s favorite hobbies is going on his annual family trips with his wife and two kids. His favorite destination they’ve been to is Cambodia, and he’s looking forward to an upcoming family trip to Guatemala later this summer.
